The Hardest Walk with Broken Water - An Interview

***** Interview with Broken Water *****

Q. When did Broken Water starts, tell us about the history...
J - kanako and i were in another band called sisters for a few years and after that band broke up we continued to play music together mostly just for fun. we ended up asking our friend abby to play bass with us for some songs i had been writing in 2008 and broken water was born.

Q: Who are your influences?
J- musically i'm influenced by all sorts of stuff. i first discovered punk rock when i was around 14 and listened to a lot of black flag, circle jerks, dead kennedys, etc. i'm also a big fan of the 80's/90's UK shoegaze movement, as well as the pacific northwest punk scene of the same era.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
J-that's a tough one and it changes all the time...i'll give it a shot though (in no particular order) "isn't anything" - my bloody valentine, "amanita" - bardo pond, "psychocandy" - jesus & mary chain, "bad moon rising" - sonic youth, "ramones" - ramones

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
Kanako: Connected

Q. How do you describe Broken Water sounds?
Kanako: Like your mother giving birth to a 1969 Fender Twin Reverb under the ocean.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs and when the new album comes?
Kanako: We like to lock ourselves in a cabin in the middle of no where and do nothing but play and eat food and walk around the woods.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Kanako: awesome bands from Olympia: VEX, GAG, Dreamdecay, MOON

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Kanako: Chills, LOW, Bach, Neko Case, Cocteau twins, Yanka Dyagileva

Q: What´s the plans for future....
7 week US tour this spring, 6 week European tour this Fall and we would LOVE to drive our 23 year old van to South America!

Q: Any parting words?
J- hope to make it Brazil one day and play some shows, and check out the music scene you have going on down there!
