Shush with Coaches - An Interview

***** Interview with Coaches *****

Q. When did Coaches start? tell us about the history...
Until recently Coaches had been in a constant state of change, but started in some way at some point a few years ago in Boston, MA. We we're just friends who had similar interests musically and otherwise.

Q: Who are your influences?
Our influences are all over the map, some are more obvious then others.Leonard Cohen, Fugazi, The Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, Elliott Smith, and Sonic Youth are all bands one or most of us have obsessed over at some point and time. We've been compared to a lot of early shoegaze bands and 90's indie-rock (the decade of our formidable youth) which is flattering since we love most of those bands, but I'd also rather give up playing music than just be an outlet for people trying to relive a period of time that's already come and gone. Feelings of nostalgia are not something we really care to evoke in anyone. Comparisons and influences are pivotal to people finding music these days because of the impossible amount of bands to choose from, I totally get that, but it sometimes forces people to pigeon hole themselves into what they perceive as their "taste". If you find yourself believing "I like this, I don't like that" I think that's pretty much the wrong head space to be in 99% of the time. Not only does it block valuable points of view from possibly becoming an influence in your own life, but it can stunt a humans personal and artistic growth significantly.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
In no particular order:
Happy You - Giggle
Infinity Girl - Harm
Big Eater - In Between
Jonathan Sibha - secretlovers
Black Sabbath - Vol. 4

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Really nice, very happy.

Q. How do you describe Coaches sounds?
We are mastering a science so fantastic that the old American and Russian control of atomic force will seem pathetic.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We like to look like we're working really fast, but really its a slow methodical process involving magic, losing it, and then faking it.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Elizabeth Color Wheel, Kindling, Infinity Girl, Big Eater, Jonathan Sibha, and Happy You.

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
If we're going by songs, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler would be cool, though I doubt there's anything we could add to top the original. Nick Lowe's (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding would also be fun.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
More music. More shows. Hopefully less of other things.

Q: Any parting words?
Be nicer to other people. It's not their fault.
