Imaginario with Perfectos Extraños - An Interview

***** Interview with Perfecto Extraños *****

Q: Who are your influences?
We've got a lot of influences, mostly 80’s music like Los Prisioneros, New Order, The Smiths, Virus, The Cure, Yo La Tengo…But we also like Wild Nothing, Slowdive, The Pains, Alvvays, Hibou, etc.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
Los Prisioneros – Corazones
Beach Boys – Pet Sounds
Mild High Club – Skiptracing
George Harrison – Living in the material world

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Well, It’s actually cool to play live, to have the chance to show our songs and see how people react to them and have them even sing them, but there are a lot more interesting things like the process of recording songs, rehearsals and the search for a new sound. Music is not only live performances, it's in all our routines, even while we’re at work.

Q. How do you describe Perfectos Extranos sounds?
We describe our music as a sonic ride sorrounded by raucous guitars and balanced by Karen’s sweet voice.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Everything starts with an idea, a rustic melody sent by anyone in the band, if everyone likes it then we start to work on it, arrengements, lyrics and everything.

We do drums on the computer because we kind of like that melancholy 80’s sound. All recordings are made by ourselves at home, it’s fun tho. Then mixing is a whole endless journey where we could keep doing it for a life time, but we got to stop when everyone is happy with the results. This is one of our favourite parts.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Coloresantos
Monet
Chain Wallet
Los Devas
Amarga Marga

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
This is a funny question, because already we have a recorded cover version of Be my baby by the Ronettes, choosing a cover to play live had always been a pain in the ass, we can never decide which song to play and in the end we just choose our own songs. Once we played Devil Town by Daniel Johnston, it was fun.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
Right now we’re just writing and recording new songs, thinking about recording new videos and having a good time. Whatever may come, we’ll take it gracefuly.

Q: Any parting words? Thanks again
If you like to play your own songs please don’t expect a famous producer knocking on your door, just take what you got and record them as you can, that way It will be way more real. Turn off the TV and play a song by heart.
